Noch 2017 New Items

JULIAN LILLEY looks at what is due for release in 2017 from Noch.

I can’t believe another year has gone by since the last Nuremburg Toy Fair, reviewing new exciting innovative products from Noch - who in my opinion produce some of the finest scenic products for the model enthusiast.

I have highlighted below just some of their new releases that took my eye, but all of the new items can be viewed in the 2017 Noch New Items leaflet.

Figure Sets

This year is the 20th anniversary of Noch producing quality plastic figures. The first Noch figures were introduced in 1997 and since then the range has grown to over 250 different figure sets.

Each year Noch announce that their new releases will fit a specific theme. In 2017 this theme is Hobby and Leisure which encompasses figure sets.

HO/OO Scale

The sporting range has been updated with more modern equipment being used by the figures. To keep the Footballers in check, launched last year, Referees and Trainers have been added. The Paragliders could add a different dimension to a modern layout as would Mountain bikers riding over the fields below them. To represent us hobbyists on your layout (after recently producing N15596 Railway Modellers) they are now producing radio control model aircraft and boat modellers!

There are also more releases in their Hobby Series which are ideal for populating a layout or dioramas in a cost efficient way. Although not as detailed as the normal Noch figures they are better value.

N Scale

To the best of my knowledge two ready painted football teams are available for the first time in N Scale; N36965 and N36967. Also of interest are the generic Steam Locomotive engine drivers N36281 and Track Workers N36277.

Again following on from the OO/HO range last year, Noch have produced three sets of Sound Scenes in N Scale. Thanks to the compact construction the sound is generated from where the figures are and is powered by 16v AC/DC supply and each set includes six figures. The range due for delivery in June consists of On the Platform, N12955 Street Musicians and N12960 On the Farm with all the appropriate sounds one would expect.

Z Scale

New for this year Noch are introducing a small range of Z scale (1:220), expected release date April 2017.

They include German Railway officials although due to the size they will probably pass for others, as well as Travellers, Pedestrians, Sitting People, Black and White Cows, Brown and White cows and finally Brown Cows on their own.

3D Minis Series

This year, there are again some great new additions to the 3D Minis Series in HO/OO Scale, including a Hydraulic Track/Gauge Tester. The highly detailed models are 3D printed, hand-painted and weathered and would look good on most Modern image layouts Expected release date is October 2017.

Landscaping Products

Rock Forming System

When it comes to scenic and landscaping Noch certainly is one of the first places I look for realistic, easy to use products. The new Rock Forming System contains six different rock formers with the dimensions of 24x12cm. Used in conjunction with the PROFI Casting Compound N60918, you will create deceptively realistic boulders, rock faces and formations.

No matter whether you want to design a mountain range or a train embankment with individual rocks, the Rock Forming System offers the perfect solution. This makes the casting of rocks particularly cost-efficient and perfectly suitable for the creation of larger rock terrains. A special inner coating in the casting mould ensures easy release of your rocks after hardening. The packaging of the rock formers is also designed to be used as a stable casting frame.

To add extra depth and realism the new Rock Paints N61200 give great results, and scale rubble in three different grades that could be placed at the bottom of a rock formation. The full Rock Forming System range is expected to be released in July 2017.

Laser Cut Buildings

N66823 Micro-Motion Rock Festival

Three years ago, Noch introduced an animated Rock Concert complete with sound in HO/OO Scale. It was limited to just 1,000 units and sold-out completely before the release date. The new improved version is a pre-formed model equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack, which is suitable for all common audio players. This enables you to turn on your own music on the festival stage from your MP3 player or Smartphone.

Stereo sound comes from two loudspeakers that give the whole mini sound system a true concert feel. The sound installation gets optical support from a lighting console, which flickers to the music's rhythm. While in sleep mode, the stage shines with a blue light. The stars on the back wall and the stage lettering are also illuminated, which creates an amazing festival atmosphere. The technical components of the Rock Festival are ready-to-use and the connection is made via a common 16v transformer, suitable for AC/DC (pun intended? - Ed).

The model is limited to 1,000 units so pre ordering is recommended based on how the previous one sold. A numbered certificate as well as an assembly and connection instruction is included, release is due in December 2017.

Others items that caught my eye were the Cattle Transport set complete with a loading ramp system, cattle and drovers, laser cut gates, fences and loading bridges as well as grass tufts and arable land scatter.

To compliment this year’s sport figure theme a Tennis Court set, complete with self adhesive court, changing room, wire mesh fence with posts and gate and tennis players with an umpire in his chair.

N66810 Golf Driving Range

Also on the cards is a Golf Driving Range, where I have been a lot recently trying in vain to be a better golfer than my daughter! This is small modern building that could be put near the edge of the layout with the golfers (N15885) driving off into the distance.

HOe/HOm

For, in my opinion, the underprovided Narrow gauge enthusiast, Noch have produced some interesting tunnel and bridge structures. The items shown below are very generic and could be used on both British and Continental layouts.

General

Finally, I was taken with this new street marking system. The first set come complete with templates for HO/OO, N and TT and a clever curved ruler for road makings no matter how bendy the road is. A white marker pen is also included. In addition to this there are sets of Modern Street Markings such as directional arrows, parking spaces, and disabled parking.
